Fast forward 47 years to 2015 and Grant Vincent, following in the footsteps of his father, took over the ownership of Vincent & Fensham. Grant was educated at Grey High School and completed a BSC (QS) from the University of Port Elizabeth (now NMU). Five Years later, Grant is still doing outstanding work in the field of Quantity Surveying.
Whilst most people think that Quantity Surveying is a fairly new career choice, it actually all began a little over a hundred years before Vincent and Fensham was established. The first recorded use of the word “quantity surveyor” was used in 1859 in England. We can go even further back to 1785 when Henry Cooper and Sons started trading.
So, what exactly is a Quantity Surveyor (QS)?

Those of you who have been involved in renovations/ building new premises/ construction projects, know the challenges faced. The primary problem generally always boils down to finances. This is why a QS should be consulted whilst your ideas are still in the planning phases. They will be your liaison between the contractors, builders, construction engineers and architects.
A QS will create a cost estimate of the project including any additional extras which may be needed. They will prepare the contractual agreements, manage the budget and ensure that the project runs timeously. They will inspect the construction at various stages during the build to ensure that all regulations are being adhered to. They are always required to comply with a code of professional conduct to all parties involved. Their clients’ interests are always at the forefront of any decisions they make or actions that they do. Should a dispute arise, with the knowledge and field expertise that a QS has, they are often called in as expert witnesses or arbitrators to assist in settling the matter.

Should it be an outside developer, we can run our investigations to ensure that the cost limits meet in with our clients’ budgets and guide them from there.
